“Udarata Menike” is the newest TV masterpiece on National Television, a Travel Magazine programme to be telecast weekly from the 08th of November at 7.30 pm on Rupavahini. This programme is based on an aesthetic Journey along the railway line from Colombo to Badulla, exploring nature, history and culture surrounding it. This is the First ever TV Travel Magazine series in Sri Lankan Television history which is being produced about a railway journey from Colombo to Badulla.
On behalf of the National Television Channel- Rupavahini, This programme series is being written and directed by award wining TV director Athula Disanayaka and Mayuri Wanguru. Athula Dissanayaka's programme - "Watarawuma" was adjudged Best Current affairs Programme and Best magazine programme at the Sumathi Tele Award 2006 and State TV Awards 2007 respectively.

Breathing the cool, fresh air throughout this train journey is remarkable. Between Hatton and Haputale, passengers may sense the flash of a mist and its cold embrace. The Green terrain of tea plantations makes the most charming scene. Beyond the tea estates one may witness the panoramic scenes of strips of mountain ranges coloured different shades of blue, stretching away to infinity. The Horton Plains and other Nature reserves are the origin of pure fountains. The young river takes the shape of a waterfall crashing to stones where located hundreds of feet below. Passengers on the Udarata Menike may witness several waterfalls such as the breathtaking St. Claire.
Udarata Manike TV programme will explore the most valued and attractive historical legends from the Kandyan period and some tragic incidents as well. Uthuwan Kande Sura Sardiel, Sri Wicrama Rajasinghe the last king of Sri Lankan dynasty and the heroic young son of Ehalepola Nilame– Madduma Bandara are some of prominent characters in the history to be explored in this programme.

The Peradeniya University, the most charming symbol of university education will be visited. Many acclaimed artistic works such as songs, Novels and stage dramas originated from Peradeniya Unversity. At the time that Peradeniya was at its peak there was popular intellectual debate on various theme. Architecturally, Peradeniya University is remarkable and fascinating. These all important and impressive facts will elaborates in the “Udarata Menike” Programme
Shooting Udarata Menike with innovative technology

Some innovative technological systems were used to capture this journey. The middle portion of the Journey, beyond Gampola to Idalgashinna was shot using a ‘heli cam’ (a camera mounted on a helicopter and operated by remote control). We also scheduled 3 cameras for capturing the journey by train and the surrounding beauty of the railway line.
